Keynote Speaker BIO :
Kevin Johnson, MD, MS, FAAP, FAMIA, FACMI
Kevin B. Johnson, MD, MS is the David L. Cohen University Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Computer and Information Science, Pediatrics, and Science Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his MD from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and his MS in Medical Informatics from Stanford University.
Dr. Johnson is an internationally respected developer and evaluator of clinical information technology. His research interests have been related to developing and encouraging the adoption of clinical information systems to improve patient safety and compliance with practice guidelines. He is widely known for his work with e-prescribing and computer-based documentation, as well as his recent creative endeavors to communicate science to lay audiences, including a feature length documentary about health information exchange.
He is the author of over 200 publications and has won dozens of awards over his career. Notably, he was elected to the American College of Medical Informatics in 2004, The Academic Pediatric Society in 2010, the National Academy of Medicine (Institute of Medicine) in 2010, the International Association of Health Science Informatics in 2021, and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering in 2022

Kristen Sandel, MD, FACEP, FAAEM
President Pennsylvania Medical Society
After a 1-year term as vice-president and president-elect, Kristen Sandel, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, an emergency physician from Ephrata, has been inaugurated as the 174th President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).
Dr. Sandel has been a member of PAMED since 2006; serving on the Board of Trustees and being an active member of the Women Physicians Section. She has held several committee leadership roles including Chair of the Executive Committee of the Berks County Medical Society and most recently leading PAMED’s Emergency Department Overcrowding Task Force to address the issue of ED overcrowding in Pennsylvania.
Of being newly inaugurated as president, Dr. Sandel said, “I am honored to serve as the president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. I have been fortunate to have wonderful mentors within PAMED who have moved us forward in my time. As I take office, I plan to focus on helping my colleagues restore the joy of practicing medicine and lead to, most importantly, better serving the patients of Pennsylvania.”
A graduate from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Dr. Sandel completed medical school training at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine at Drexel University, which is now the Drexel University College of Medicine.
She is currently a practicing emergency physician and is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Wellspan Health in Ephrata.
She was inaugurated as the president on January 20.
