About Us
Chester County Medical Society (CCMS) is an independent, non-profit, membership organization for physicians. Its members include D.O.s, M.D.s, medical residents and fellows, active and retired physicians. It is open to all physician specialties and is the only physician organization in Chester County.
CCMS is also the oldest medical society in the state of Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1828 by William Darlington, M.D, a very prominent surgeon, businessman, botanist, author and state legislator. CCMS is one of 62 local county medical societies in Pennsylvania, all of which are affiliated with the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
The mission of CCMS is to support and advocate for all physicians who work or live in Chester County and their patients. To that end, CCMS is involved in political advocacy at the county and state levels, the continuing education of their physician members, providing access to practice management resources and assistance, physician leadership programs, and ensuring the health of the Chester County community. There are many opportunities for members to participate directly or indirectly in the initiatives and events of the Chester County Medical Society.
CCMS is managed by a Board of physicians who are all active practitioners. They volunteer their time to advance the profession of medicine. The CCMS Board of Officers and Directors is supported by a parttime employed administrator.
The Chester County Medical Society encourages and welcomes all physicians in Chester County to join the Society if they aren’t already members. Together with the other counties across the state and with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, CCMS provides a powerful voice of unity, awareness and strength for the medical profession.
